Students have spent several classes working on class projects that will be used for the Art To Remember fundraiser. Currently, students are putting the finishing touches on pictures that will then be available to be ordered on all kinds of gift items. Ornaments, coffee mugs, note pads, t-shirts, etc. These items make FANTASTIC holiday gifts for family members. All proceeds from the sale support the art room. With these funds I am able to provide additional supplies for the fun projects your students create during the school year. Please be looking for a personalized order form to come home with your student at the end of this month.
One question I get every year is can we do another artwork? The answer is YES! There is a way to upload a different image to your online account OR you can send the picture in to me. There are some image requirements set by the company so PLEASE check with me on the details if you are wanting to add an additional image. If there are any other questions I can help you with please feel free to send an e-mail or call the school! 2nd grade is using a resist technique to paint their shape animal landscapes. The kids worked hard to use line and shape to draw their animals and put them in a landscape. Now students are working on using watercolors to paint their landscapes. They are super cute! kindergarden has been working hard to learn painting procedures and to do step by directions in the art room. We started by using line and shape to draw our wrappers and to add sprinkles and a cherry. Now we are learning the steps to set up and clean up painting and how to skip around the picture to fill in the whole page as neatly as we can. pattern block club has been a hit with 1st grade of Friday’s!
Kindergarten practiced identifying and drawing shapes. We then used scissor and glue skills to cut and glue our shapes to a new page. We learned about the three Primary Colors and used our BEST Kindergarten coloring to completely color our shapes and turn them into shape monsters! 1st grade began last week looking at the artist Piet Mondrian and exploring the way he divided his picture into shapes using lines. We then practiced painting skills to divide our paper into shapes using vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines. Instead of using only straight lines we used several different types of lines. This week we reviewed the three PRIMARY COLORS and colored like Mondrian to fill most of our shapes using our best coloring skills- leaving NO white space in the shape! 2nd grade finished a review of line and color by looking at the artist Piet Mondrian and dividing an animal in his style. Students drew different types of lines in the three different directions (vertical, horizontal, and diagonal) and then either colored like Mondrian using primary colors or KIND OF like Mondrian by using secondary colors. Next students began their next project using geometric shapes to create animals. 3rd and 4th grade are hard at work drawing their jungle landscapes in the style of Henri Rousseau. We began by discussing the artist and learning about the three main parts of a picture to show space- the foreground, middle ground, and background. Students have been working hard to fill all three parts of their image with jungle plants and animals. Next week we will begin adding color! 5th grade looked at the American artist Winslow Homer to review the three parts of a picture to create space- foreground, middle ground, and background. They then started drawing a picture that includes an object in each area. Somewhere in their image students will be including water, a boat, and a piece of land. I am loving seeing all the different ideas students are coming up with to incorporate those three things- from tropical paradises, to arctic shores, each student is putting their own spin on the assignment!
Welcome back to the art room for the 2018-2019 school year! I am so excited to see everyone and get back to making some FANTASTIC artwork! During the first week we are jumped right into routines, a short self-portrait activity, and set up sketchbooks with grades 3-5.
I really appreciate all the help from parents and students this year in bringing in supplies to help out the art room- baby wipes, foam plates, and black sharpies are three items that we use A LOT in class! Other items on our class wish list include things like buttons, beads, pom poms, and pipe cleaners. Art To Remember is BACK!! This fall we will be participating in a fundraiser to provide additional supplies for the art room. The Art To Remember program allows you to purchase items with YOUR child's artwork on it. I personally have a collection of ornaments created by my children that decorate our tree every year at Christmas and a collection of mugs. These items make GREAT holiday gifts. Look for more information to be coming home with your student in the next month. Please feel free to contact me any time you have a question or concern. My e-mail is [email protected] or you can reach me at (270) 852-7570. First grade students did a long bird unit in their classroom so we continued their learning in the classroom. Instead of regular bird eggs students used model magic to make a dragon egg and built a nest for their eggs.
