These 3rd graders have been working so hard on some amazing projects! We began this unit talking about Japanese cherry blossom trees and practicing how to draw a realistic branches using the y-technique. Students folded and cut their paper to be able to form a lantern later in the unit and got to work drawing and painting branches that stretched across the page. Next we used LINE to create bark texture on the branches and VAUE to mix and print cherry blossoms across the page. During their next class they will turn their flat paintings into three dimensional lanterns- I can't wait to see them! Even though they have been busy creating their branches students have also managed to find time to work on some Haiku poems about cherry blossom trees to go with their lanterns- they have been putting a LOT of hard work into this unit!
