Kindergarten practiced identifying and drawing shapes. We then used scissor and glue skills to cut and glue our shapes to a new page. We learned about the three Primary Colors and used our BEST Kindergarten coloring to completely color our shapes and turn them into shape monsters! 1st grade began last week looking at the artist Piet Mondrian and exploring the way he divided his picture into shapes using lines. We then practiced painting skills to divide our paper into shapes using vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines. Instead of using only straight lines we used several different types of lines. This week we reviewed the three PRIMARY COLORS and colored like Mondrian to fill most of our shapes using our best coloring skills- leaving NO white space in the shape! 2nd grade finished a review of line and color by looking at the artist Piet Mondrian and dividing an animal in his style. Students drew different types of lines in the three different directions (vertical, horizontal, and diagonal) and then either colored like Mondrian using primary colors or KIND OF like Mondrian by using secondary colors. Next students began their next project using geometric shapes to create animals. 3rd and 4th grade are hard at work drawing their jungle landscapes in the style of Henri Rousseau. We began by discussing the artist and learning about the three main parts of a picture to show space- the foreground, middle ground, and background. Students have been working hard to fill all three parts of their image with jungle plants and animals. Next week we will begin adding color! 5th grade looked at the American artist Winslow Homer to review the three parts of a picture to create space- foreground, middle ground, and background. They then started drawing a picture that includes an object in each area. Somewhere in their image students will be including water, a boat, and a piece of land. I am loving seeing all the different ideas students are coming up with to incorporate those three things- from tropical paradises, to arctic shores, each student is putting their own spin on the assignment!
