4th Grade- Wish for the world4th grade is starting a unit based on the artist Robert Indiana. Students have been asked to think of a powerful, positive four letter word that they will paint in the boxed style of the artist. Here students are brainstorming their wish for the world and sharing their final choice with the class using menti.com's word cloud. Kindergarten Dr. Seuss FishKindergarten students are celebrating Dr. Seuss this week with a project inspired by the book "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish". This project was adapted from a great lesson I found on Deep Space Sparkle's website for Dr. Seuss week. These kiddos have painted some pretty awesome fish that would fit right into Dr. Seuss' stories!

Stallions Collaborate!Students throughout the school have begun working on a whole school collaboration piece for the district arts festival! Each student will have the opportunity to paint a piece for our project. In these pictures fifth grade and kindergarten students are working on their parts.
our "Great Wave" sculptures are coming along great! Students are painting in the style of Hokusai by using VALUE and LINE to create movement and texture.
These 3rd graders have been working so hard on some amazing projects! We began this unit talking about Japanese cherry blossom trees and practicing how to draw a realistic branches using the y-technique. Students folded and cut their paper to be able to form a lantern later in the unit and got to work drawing and painting branches that stretched across the page. Next we used LINE to create bark texture on the branches and VAUE to mix and print cherry blossoms across the page. During their next class they will turn their flat paintings into three dimensional lanterns- I can't wait to see them! Even though they have been busy creating their branches students have also managed to find time to work on some Haiku poems about cherry blossom trees to go with their lanterns- they have been putting a LOT of hard work into this unit!
4th grades carp kites- koinobori- are getting so closed to finished! Students incorporated the elements of value and texture when designing their fish. We have one class of fish hanging from the ceiling in the hallway and more are coming later this week! I can not wait to see them all "swimming"!
